Trip Report by Mel & Karen Ray
Castellina: Kind of our home for the past 7 days ... nearest small town to the Villa ... no particular goal for the day ... slow to get up for coffee ... Mel & Bill went into Castelinna to a bakery for a bag of fresh made goodies ... lot's of talk this morning about departure plans for tomorrow (Saturday) ... decided we would go for lunch at a little pizza place Mel & Karen found earlier in the week ... all 6 agree this is the best pizza they've EVER tasted!
Walked the street a bit and it feels so good to just walk & chat in a small town ... memories of the towns where we grew up back in the Midwest ... too bad that some things are 'spoiled by progress' ... returned to the Villa for continuation of competitive games (egos at stake !!!) ... plans for early packing were quickly tossed for friendly chatter, game playing, naps, etc. ... soon it was time for dinner (7:30 PM ... we're early-birds over here) ... again back to Castellina to a very small romantic restaurant that Mel & Karen found earlier (Sotto Le Volte) ... located under the arches of the medieval walkway ... vaulted ceilings ... the candlelight, delicious Italian entries, and Chianti (yep, Mel & Karen developed a taste for Chianti) provided the perfect setting to reflect on all the Tuscany treasures that we have enjoyed the past week ... we are sooooo privileged in so many ways to have this opportunity.
Tomorrow morning our travel partners will depart early to drive to Nice, France ... we'll have an easy morning since we need not hurry to our 8 PM flight from Florence to Barcelona .... we overnight in Barcelona then board the Holland America Nieuw Amsterdam to begin the crossing to Ft. Lauderdale.
Our Internet coverage has been quite good while in Italy however it may be a few days before we send any further emails due to spotty, and not free anymore, Internet availability.
So for now .... ARRIVEDERCI ... later,
