National Park entry fees are paid upon entrance to the park, before you even arrive at the hotel.
From the hotel you have direct access to the national park, and to the trails that take you by the many falls. While Iguazu is not the largest falls in the world, it does make an impressive sight. Its tropical rain forest local includes many butterflies and animals that are not familiar to those of us in North America.
Be sure to bring lots of insect repellent, and consult with the cdc website, as some vaccinations are suggested.
This can be done as a day tour from the cruise ships, however due to the fact that it requires flights and transfers, it is typically expensive.
A better option, if you are doing a South American Cruise is add the flight in to your original itinerary as a multi-leg journey. By doing this it adds far less to the cost, than to buy a separate round trip ticket to Iguacu. In our case the flight Miami to Santiago, then Buenos Aires to Iguacu, Iguacu to Buenos Aires, and Buenos Aires to Miami cost only about $100 more than just the round trip Miami ticket!
